As an online store owner, you know that getting your products in front of potential customers can be a challenge. With so many online retailers vying for attention, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd. That’s why it’s important to take advantage of every opportunity to increase your online visibility and reach more customers. And one opportunity you don’t want to miss is connecting your WooCommerce store to your Google Listing.

You may have noticed that organic SEO results are being pushed further down the page, with Google favouring ads and its own properties above the fold. This means that if you’re relying solely on organic SEO to drive traffic to your site, you’re missing out on a lot of potential customers. But by connecting your WooCommerce store to your Google Listing, you can showcase your products to potential customers at the top of the search results page.

So how do you connect your WooCommerce store to your Google Listing? It’s actually easier than you might think. Here’s a step-by-step guide to getting started:

Step 1: Set up a Google My Business account

The first step in connecting your WooCommerce store to your Google Listing is to set up a Google My Business account. This will allow you to manage your business information across Google’s properties, including Search and Maps. To set up a Google My Business account, go to google.com/business and follow the instructions.

Step 2: Verify your business’s location

Once you’ve set up your Google My Business account, you’ll need to verify your business’s location. This is important because it ensures that your business information is accurate and up-to-date. To verify your business’s location, you’ll need to provide Google with some information about your business, such as your address and phone number. Google will then send you a postcard with a verification code, which you’ll need to enter into your Google My Business account to complete the verification process.

Step 3: Install the Google Listings and Ads plugin for WooCommerce

The next step is to install the Google Listings and Ads plugin for WooCommerce. This plugin will help you sync your product data with Google My Business and create Google Local Inventory Ads. To install the plugin, go to the Plugins section of your WordPress dashboard and search for “Google Listings and Ads for WooCommerce.” Once you’ve found the plugin, click the “Install Now” button and follow the instructions.

Step 4: Connect your WooCommerce store to your Google My Business account

Once you’ve installed the Google Listings and Ads plugin, the next step is to connect your WooCommerce store to your Google My Business account. To do this, go to the Google My Business section in the plugin settings and click on “Connect to Google.” You’ll then be prompted to log in to your Google account and grant the plugin access to your Google My Business account.

Step 5: Sync your products with Google My Business

Once you’ve connected your WooCommerce store to your Google My Business account, the next step is to sync your products with Google My Business. In the plugin settings, you can select which products you want to sync with Google My Business. You can also choose which attributes to include in your product listings, such as price, availability, and descriptions. This will ensure that your product listings are accurate and up-to-date.

Step 6: Set up Google Local Inventory Ads

Once your product data is synced with Google My Business, you can create Google Local Inventory Ads to promote your products to local shoppers. These ads will appear in Google search results and Google Maps, and they’ll include details like product images, prices, and availability. To set up Google Local Inventory Ads, go to the Ads section.

It’s that easy! But if you need expert assistance, Thrive Digital can help. As a Platinum Certified WooCommerce Expert, we have the knowledge and experience to get the most out of Google Listings and Ads and take your online store to the next level.

It isn’t exactly easy to stand out on Instagram with millions of accounts competing for your audience’s attention.

While posting consistently, reaching out to your niche audience and posting reels is a great way to increase your organic engagement, another way that is often overlooked is optimising SEO. Instagram SEO works on the same premise as traditional SEO, instead of driving traffic to your website, it drives traffic to your Instagram page. By understanding Instagram SEO and implementing the following strategies you will be able to get your content featured in search result pages and ultimately help extend your organic reach.

What is SEO for Instagram?

Instagram SEO means optimising your Instagram content so it can be discovered in search results. When someone searches for a relevant keyword or hashtag in the Instagram search box, you want to ensure your content appears at the top of the list.

For example, if you’re a shoe repairer on the Gold Coast when someone types in “shoe repairer” into the search bar, you want to be the first account to show up. Now, SEO can be quite tricky to perfect. It is a fine art – just ask our SEO guru Anton! Instagram SEO is no different. Here are a few things you can do to get yourself ranking right up top.

Search text

Well, it makes sense that what you type into the search bar will show you the most important stuff straight away. Based on the terms, Instagram looks for relevant usernames, bios, captions, hashtags and locations.

The first step is to do some research. Find out what terms your audience are looking at when it comes to content like yours. Google Analytics is a great one to use, however, there are plenty of other social media monitoring tools out there that can assist you in finding the right terms you want to rank for.

Activity

Activity is based on the hashtags and accounts the user has followed and interacted with, as well as which posts they have viewed in the past. To rank well it’s all about researching what your audience is searching for. Understand the hashtags your target audience is engaging with and use those.

Popularity signals

Making quality content that will get traction is the key to getting yourself ranking high in search results. Instagram determines popularity using signals like the number of clicks, likes, shares and follows for an account, as well as hashtags and place.

A great tip is to post at the right time to spark engagement right away! Early engagement signals popularity and gives your content a search boost when it is fresh. You can find out the best time to publish on insights in the app.

SEO Strategies

Optimise your Instagram profile for search

The first place to start is with your Instagram bio. Choose a handle and a profile name that is relevant to your content. If you can squeeze in a keyword into your handle or name, do it!

Whatever your business is, make sure that it is clear in your handle and name. Another important thing to do is include keywords in your bio. Ask yourself, who are you and what are you about? Make sure what content you are providing is clear in your bio. Lastly, include a profile location in your bio, this acts as a ranking signal to the Instagram search engine.

Hashtags

Using the right hashtags in your caption is a great way to boost SEO. Follow the below steps to make sure you’re using hashtags in a way that benefits your business.

  • Only use relevant hashtags.
  •  Used a mix of well known hashtags and niche-specific ones.
  • Limit hashtags to 3 to 5 per post.
  • Don’t use irrelevant ones or even worse, ones that are banned.

Use the correct keywords

When writing a caption consider putting in a few keywords that are relevant to your business. Instagram has changed how you are served your content. In the past, you were only served relevant accounts, hashtags and places.

Now, search results also include keyword result pages meant for the discovery of new accounts.

Add alt text to images

Alt text has been used on the web for a while now to describe what an image or video is. This helps make content accessible to those with visual impairments. It also assists in providing a description of the content in case an image or video fails.

Instagram uses object recognition technology to create an automatic description of each photo for those who use a screen reader. This information also provides information to the algorithm and search results about the content of your image.

To add customised alt text, when uploading an image tap Advanced Settings > Accessibility > Write Alt Text > add your description from there.

At the end of the day, one of the best things you can do is maintain a quality account! Instagram loves accounts that stick by their guidelines and provide content that is high quality. Implementing these tactics is a great way to optimise your Instagram account.

What is SEO? How does SEO work? What is SEO in simple terms?

These are all questions business owners ask us.

If you search SEO on the Internet you’ll find pages and pages of definitions. It’s a term that’s thrown around a lot in the marketing world, but it can be quite confronting for people with limited exposure to website design and marketing. So let’s break it down and explain SEO in simple terms.

What Is SEO?

SEO stands for search engine optimisation. Let’s break that down.

A search engine, for example, Google, is something that helps you find information on the Internet. It puts everything you’re looking for into one (very long) list, or as it’s known a ‘search results page’.

The optimisation is the act of making something the best it can be.

SEO is optimising your website for search engines’ With all the information on the Internet, optimising your website makes it easier for people to find your business and the products or services you sell. Everybody wants to be higher on Google’s search results page because it’s easier for customers to find you.

Google & SEO

Google’s job is to uncover and organise information and make it easy to find. Think of Google as a torch that finds things in the dark, and you want to attract this torch light by optimising your website and attracting the attention of Google.

How to optimise your website for search engines?

If you want your business or products to appear high on the search results page there are certain things you need to do to your website. You’ll need to make changes to your website by leaving signs for Google.

So, how do you do this? Here are some great tips:

1. Have Great Quality Content On Your Website

What you write on your business website is very important. If customers were looking for your business on the Internet what words would they use to search? These words are called keywords and will help Google find your business when people search for your product or service.

What you write on your website needs to be easy to understand and engage your readers. The more people who read your information, the more chance you have to get higher on Google’s search results page. This information also needs to be updated regularly to remind Google that your business is there.

2. Making Your Website Easy To Use

When Google is shining its torch around you don’t want it to get lost! By using sub-headings and headings throughout your pages and making your website easy to navigate you will get higher on search results pages. Google also likes it when your website is fast to use and not sluggish.

3. Linking To Your Website

In SEO terms links are signposts people can click on to be redirected to another web page. They send people back to your website and these signposts are essential so Google can find you.

There are 2 types of links you will have on your website:

  • Internal links point to a different section of your own website, from inside your website. So technically, people never leave your website to find the information they are looking for.
  • External links point to a third-party URL outside of your website. Google likes to put popular businesses high up on their search results page. The more websites that are pointing back to your website, the more popular Google thinks you are and the higher up on the results page you will go.

4. Use HTML

When your website is built it’s important to name each page correctly so Google can find them. It’s just as vital to use what we call ‘meta-data’, which is a way of naming photos so Google will find them and they’ll also come up on Google’s search results page when people are looking for similar products or services to yours.

Want to be seen by customers at the very moment they’re searching on Google for the things you offer? Over a million businesses rely on Google Adwords to do just that. So why use Google Ads? Here’s 6 reasons why you should be advertising using Adwords.

1. You’ll attract more customers

It’s no secret that Google is here to stay and for the majority of Australians searching on Google is a regular part of everyday life. Google now processes more than 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some of that traffic headed to your business!

2. You can advertise locally or globally

Say, for example, that you can run a business located in the Gold Coast. If you wanted to, with Adwords, you can target customers in New Zealand, Tuscany, or San Francisco with your message. Google allows you to target individual countries, regions or cities – or simply within a set distance from your business or shop.

3. You can start with any budget

How much you invest is up to you. Just begin with a daily budget that you’re comfortable with, we will then monitor and advise if the budget needs to be increased or lowered.

4. Reach the right people at the right time

Whether you’re looking to bring in new website visitors, grow online sales, get the phones ringing or keep customers coming back for more, advertising through Google Ads can help get your phones ringing again by putting your business in front of them at the very moment they are searching for it.

5. You only pay for results. No Visit = No Fee

The great thing about Cost Per Click advertising is that you only pay when someone clicks your ad to visit your website, or calls you, In other words, when your advertising is working.

6. There’s no contract to lock you in

If you decide that the ads aren’t working for you, you can pause or end your campaign at any time without extra charge. It’s that easy. While running your own ads account sounds easy on the surface, setting up and running a successful Google Ads campaign can be difficult for some or too time-consuming for others. Google is known to change policies and the ways their ads function, and if you are not on top of it, your ads can stop running for a day or more, and in some cases a week until Google notifies you.

We take all the guesswork out of SEO so you can focus on your customers while we do all we can to direct potential clients to you.
We specialise in setting up and maintaining effective Google Ads campaigns. Give our team a call on 07 5535 0063 or fill in our contact form to get started.

Whether you’re looking to bring  in new website visitors, grow online sales, get the phones ringing or keep customers coming back for more, advertising through Google Ads can help. Here’s our step by step guide to setting up your Google Ads for your business.

Setup Google Ads

First up we’re going to look for the right keywords to target. For more detail on choosing the right keywords read our article choosing the right keywords here.

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Find the keyword planner within the main menu under Tools > Keyword Planner.
  3. Choose Find New Keywords and enter any words, phrases, or a website URL that is related to your business.
  4. Click Get Started to see related keywords and average monthly searches.

Setup a Campaign

  1. Once your keywords are setup you are ready to start to create your ads. Select Campaigns from the left-hand sidebar.
  2. Select New Campaign to start setting up your campaign.
  3. Select a relevant objective/goal or create a campaign without one.
  4. Search for a relevant campaign type (ie. website visits, phone calls, etc) and click Next.
  5. Create a name for your campaign and enter any other details.
  6. Make sure the Search Network is ticked and the Display Network is unticked.
  7. For your location targeting, you can opt for worldwide or narrow down to your local area. The advanced search will allow you to do radial targeting.
  8. Click on the Location Options if you are choosing a local area and enter the target area and any excluded area.
  9. Unless your site is multilingual, skip the language settings.
  10. Set your daily budget for the month. Commonly, you won’t pay more than your daily budget times the average number of days in a month. Some days you might spend less than your daily budget, and on others, you might spend up to twice as much. If you wish to spend $350 a month on ads it is $350 divided by 30.4 days = $11.50 daily spend. We advise against setting your delivery method to accelerated as you will spend your budget quickly and might miss out on clicks later in the day.
  11. Within the bidding box for What do you want to focus on? make sure this is set to Clicks with an option maximum cost per click.
  12. Finally, select Save and Continue and watch your campaign begin!

Setup Ad Groups

  1. You are now ready to create your ad groups. Select Ad Groups from the left-hand sidebar below Campaigns.
  2. Select New Ad Group to start your setup. Each ad group should be centred around a specific theme with all the keywords related to that theme. For example, if you buy and sell from your business, one ad group would be buying focused and another would selling focused.
  3. Once all your ad groups are created click Save and Continue to begin making the ads.
  4. Each ad group needs at least 2-3 ads, but for the initial setup we suggest creating at least one ad per ad group. You can send users to any page on your site so make sure you send them to the most relevant page based on the ad group keywords and don’t just send them all to the homepage. It is best to use all headlines and description fields when possible.
  5. Once all your ad group are setup, hit the final Save and Continue button and your first campaign is now ready to go live.
  6. There is a review process that will need to take place before your ads can be seen by users. This is an automated process and usually takes a few hours. If you haven’t already you can enter your billing details by clicking on Tools main menu and selecting Billing & Payments. Once a valid form of payment has been set up and your ads are approved, your campaigns will go live. It will take about 5 days for the campaign to be fully optimised, so we recommend waiting about 10 days before making any major change to the campaigns.
  7. If you want to see what search terms are triggering your ad to show, click on Keywords from the left-hand sidebar and then select Search Terms. If you see search terms that you don’t want your ads to be seen with, select all the relevant terms and select Add as negative keyword.

Want us to set up Google Ads for you?

While running your own ads account sounds easy on the surface, setting up and running a successful Google Ads campaign can be difficult for some or too time-consuming for others. Google is known to change policies and the ways their ads function, and if you are not on top of it, your ads can stop running for a day or more, and in some cases a week until Google notifies you.

We take all the stress and guesswork out of it for you. This means you can focus on your customers while we do all we can to direct potential clients to you. We specialise in setting up and maintaining effective Adword Campaigns.

Here’s your mission if you choose to accept it: you have 24 hours to improve your website.

What can you do to drive more traffic to your site? What simple changes can you make to improve your SEO and be seen? Here are a few quick and easy ways you can improve your website in less than 24 hours.

1. Improve your page titles

Make your onsite and meta titles as relevant as possible to the content on your site. This is the first point of reference for users and they need to be able to identify exactly what your site is about and what kind of experience to expect when visiting your site. You want your meta-title to attract potential users not confuse or deter them with irrelevant or unclear page titles, Google’s algorithm doesn’t take kindly to these kinds of page titles and chances are neither will your users.

We recommend keeping your page titles short and concise you have a limited amount of space when constructing your page titles so keep them between 55- 60 characters long to avoid ellipses… Remove all unnecessary words that lengthen your title and don’t aid in getting your point across. Create unique titles for each page, duplicate titles won’t help you.

2. Upgrade old blog posts or start blogging

Blogging is a great way to keep your website updated with fresh new content. It’s awesome for SEO and the content you generate can be shared via your social media channels.

It’s fair to say that static websites don’t rank well with search engines, so a weekly blog post is one of the best ways to continually add new content to your website and keep it relevant. Great news – we now have digital marketing packages that include regular blog posts! If you already blog, revisit your old articles and make sure they’re still relevant and the information isn’t out of date.

3. Test your page loading time

Let’s face it, no one likes waiting for a slow, sluggish website to load. More often than not customers will abandon your page and click on the next business listed on their Google search. Check the loading speed of your page to ensure it’s not turning potential customers away.

Google has a host of tools for performance testing your site. Use Page Speed Insights to analyse your sites speed on mobile and desktop devices.  Page Speed Insights will generate a report with suggested improvements for speeding up a sluggish site.

Generally speaking, fast pages are roughly in the top ~10%, average pages are in the next 40%, and slow pages are in the bottom 50%.

4. Delete replicated content

Another thing search engines don’t take kindly to replicated or duplicated content. Avoid repetition at all costs and just get to the point.

5. Add alt text for SEO

An easy way to improve your website and help it rank higher with search engines is to add alternate text to your images. Alt text is the code behind the image that acts as a description and will help search engines identify and find your content. For example, in WordPress you can edit your alt text as seen below.

6. Use Google’s Lighthouse audit

This is a great open source tool free for anyone to use on their website. Lighthouse will generate a detailed report highlighting areas of your site that need improvement, some you might be able to quickly fix yourself boosting performance, accessibility, SEO and best practises. Other more technical improvements can be handed over to your developer.

7. Keep it simple

At Thrive Web we believe website design should be clean, easy to read and uncomplicated. Your customer’s experience with your website should be straightforward, effortless and leave them with a feeling of ease.

Thrive can provide a free website audit on your site and advise some areas to improve user flow and conversions.

If you’ve decided to run Google Ads for your business one of the first steps you’ll come across after creating your campaign is adding keywords.  This step is crucial to the success of your ads, without keywords your ads will not run! and without relevant high quality keywords and key-phrases  your ads won’t be displayed to users and potential customers searching for your products or services.  So let’s take a look at a few basic but effective tips so you can build killer keyword lists for your campaigns.

Research Your Keywords

The first and most important tip when setting up your campaign is to research your keywords! Find out what keywords are going to be the most relevant to your business services, more isn’t always better, in this case, think quality of quantity. Put yourself in the shoes of a customer searching for your particular service, what would they type into a search? For example, if you’re looking for a graphic designer who specialises in logos steer away from keywords that are too general such as ‘graphic design’ a more effective keyword phrase might be logo graphic designer.

Use Google’s Keyword Planner

Google Ads has an inbuilt keyword planner tool which is great for generating ideas for your keyword lists. Enter a keyword, phrase or URL (this can be your own website or a website offering the same or similar services), the keyword planner tool will generate a list of high ranking keywords with statistics you can add to your campaigns. Pick out the most relevant and highest ranking keywords for your campaign or re-enter these keywords for a more focused set of results.

Access the Keyword Planner via the Tools icon located on the main menu banner.

Use Keyword Variations

Not everyone will search using the same keywords when creating a keyword list try to use close variants of each keyword in order for your ad’s to trigger for those who are searching using synonyms or different terminologies. For example ‘golf shop’ and ‘golf store’ have the same intent behind their search but are using different terms. You can even target alternative spellings, misspellings and plurals.

Focus On Keyword Quality

Taking keyword quality score into consideration is an absolute must. Google rewards keywords with high-quality scores this means relevance to your ad copy and website content the more relevant the higher your quality score will be. Relevance is very important, people searching for your keywords are going to want to see a business providing the exact services they searched for at the top of the page if you’re ranking for relevant searches users will be more likely to convert into paying customers.

Add the ‘quality score’ column to your keywords interface to view your keyword rating. 10/10 being the highest possible score.

Create Themed Or Single Keyword Ad Groups

When placing your keywords into ad groups you want to avoid cluttering your ad group with too many different keywords which can trigger ads which may not be exactly relevant to your ads message. Instead be sure to keep your ad groups focused with themed keywords using only close variants of each keyword.

Single Keyword Ad Groups or ‘SKAGS’ are laser-focused ad groups containing only 1 keyword per ad group using all match types to target single words, although this means creating more groups and ads it has been proven to yield effective results due to the high relevance between keywords and ad copy. Note; be sure to use keywords from your ad groups in the titles of your ads for higher quality scoring keywords.

Example of a single keyword ad group using modified broad match, phrase match and exact match types.

Know Your Match Types

There are 5 match types available in Google Ads, each one has a specific set of rules which determine how your keywords are triggered.

Broad Match

Is the first and most commonly used match type and is the default match type for all keywords. Broad match types trigger for any word that is included in your keywords or key phrase for example if your keyword is ‘ latin dance school california’ your ads might trigger for ‘latin dance’ or ‘school california’. This can pose some problems when starting out with a smaller budget as you may be generating more traffic that isn’t directly relevant to your services.

+Modified +Broad

Modified broad keywords contain a (+) before multiple or single words within a  keyword or key-phrase  these are a more refined version of the broad match type. A basic explanation is, any word that is preceded by a (+) is a modifier this means that this word must be entered into a users search (or a close variant of this word). These can be added to 1 or all words within your keyword or key phrase depending on how much you wish to refine your search terms.

“Phrase Match”

Phrase match is more defined than broad match keywords, for someone to trigger your ad they will need to search for the entire keyword or key phrase you are targeting. So if you’re targeting ‘latin dance school california’ the user will need to enter this whole phrase in order to trigger your ad. However your ad will also trigger with added keywords this means if a search is entered for ‘cheap latin dance school california’ your ad may still appear.

[Exact Match]

Exact match is the strictest keyword match type and the title says it all, search terms must exactly match your chosen keyword or keyword phrase. Although these keywords target a more specific set of words you will get the most relevant traffic as users are searching for your exact keywords, meaning they are more likely to click on your ad. Exact match keywords also tend to boast a higher conversion rate for this same reason. This is great for reducing budget spend on broader less relevant search terms.

Negative Keywords

Negative keywords are an effective way to filter out any troublesome keywords that your ads are triggering for, these are usually irrelevant terms that you don’t want your ads to show for but closely match selected keywords. So how does this happen? If you’re using a keyword phrase for a product such as ‘honda lawn mower’ you might be triggering results for ‘lawn mowing services’ when your business doesn’t even provide a lawn mowing service, therefore, attracting searchers that aren’t looking for your products. Showing for irrelevant keywords is a big budget waster and poses low click-through and conversion rates.

You can create and apply negative keyword lists for different ad groups and campaigns. Alternatively you can create a master list and apply to all campaigns.

Key Takeaways

  • Do your research. You must think like a customer, what words, terms or phrases would someone looking for your business type into a search engine. This is the best way to get the ball rolling, start with a few basic keywords and build on them.
  • Use the tools provided. The keyword planner tool is a great way to get some insight into what kinds of keywords are already being used to search for the same or similar products and services. This will also give you insight into competition for these keywords, average monthly searches, top of the page bids and more.
  • Get creative. Think about synonyms, alternative terms and different variations of keywords that might be used to search for your offerings.
  • Quality over quantity. Don’t just punch in every search term under the sun, ask yourself “are these keywords really relevant to my product?” “Do these keywords appear on my website?” “Do these keywords appear in my ad copy?” This stops unwanted users engaging with your ads who aren’t looking for your product driving down your click through and conversion rates.
  • Be specific. Create targeted ad groups for each product or service or even each keyword. This can help boost the relevance of your keywords to your ads and has proven to show some great results with click through and conversion rates.
  • Know your match types. Understanding keyword match types is essential in the success of your ad groups. Ensure relevant searches are triggering your ads and block out unwanted searches using negative keywords, this keeps your traffic at a high quality and saves wasted budget on those unlikely to convert.

So you want to rank on that first page right? Preferably right at the top? Well, it takes effort to get organic search visibility, rankings and traffic. One of the key ways to get that sweet, sweet spot right up top is by consistently creating valuable content.

Great content mixed with some optimisation, makes for a sweet concoction that can make your website go straight to the top of search engine rankings.

If you want to know how to create optimised content that lands you on your audience’s radar, look no further. Here are some tips for creating great content that your users and search engines will love.

What is SEO content?

SEO content is writing that Google can understand. Not only that, it is content that people want to read, link and share. If you have both of these things down pat, well you’re creating the perfect content for your website.

What does content have to do with SEO?

Google wants to deliver us the most useful and relevant results instantaneously. These results that Google is attempting to deliver are pieces of content from websites like yours or heaven forbid, your competitors!

When you do a Google search, these pieces of content are ranked by their order of usefulness, relevance to the individual user and the authority of the publisher. So the more authoritative, relevant and useful your content is for the searcher, the higher it will rank on Google.

Here are a few guidelines to follow:

  • Useful Information: If you are launching a restaurant make sure it has opening times, an address, menu and blog to share upcoming events.
  • Credible Sources: Use citations, links, testimonials and reviews to give your site more credibility.
  • High Quality: Your content should be unique, specific and draw upon your industry expertise.
  • Be Engaging: Use colour and images that coincide with your text. It is also important that you proofread everything so there are no spelling or grammatical errors.
  • Give Detail: Don’t skimp on the detail, Google favours longer form content so it’s common to see in-depth blog posts ranking highly (try not to be the annoying cooking website that tells the author’s life story before getting to each recipe though).

If your content covers these points, you will maximise its SEO value.

Audience-centric content

When writing content for your business you must focus on what your audience wants to hear. The more useful and relevant your content is for your audience, the better it ranks. For example, if you own a retail rug store, you need to write content that your audience will search. This could be blogs around, how to clean a rug, choose a rug, or rug trends.

How to create optimised content

Performing keyword research is important to ensure that the resulting content can be found through search engines. Here’s a guide to follow when choosing your keyword topics:

  • Focus on long tail keywords
  • Avoid super competitive keywords with massive search numbers
  • Use a proven keyword research tool
  • Match your topic to your keyword
  • And most importantly work to answer your audience’s questions

Format is important

As you’re creating your outline, be sure that you’re formatting your content into broken down subsections. Online readers have pretty short attention spans and they’re not going to continue reading if it is one big paragraph.

When writing your content, it is best to aim for paragraphs that are ideally 1-2 sentences in length, with a maximum of four short sentences. Another important thing to note is inserting subheadings or visuals every 150-300 words to break up the content further and make it easier to read.

Stick to your target and keywords

As you begin writing your content, keep in mind the importance of sticking to the topic and target keyword that you’ve chosen.

Don’t write about everything and anything within a single piece of content. This prevents you from creating the most useful and relevant content on the topic you have chosen to write about. The more you focus on providing relevant content on the topic and the keyword, the more Google is going to love it!

Yes, so if you are writing about rug trends…make sure you only stick to that!

Use internal links

For your content to rank, it needs links. Google follows links to discover content on websites and to rank this content in the search results.

So what is an internal link?

An internal link is any link from one page on your website to another. There are several types of internal links such as your homepage, menu etc. You can also add links within your content called contextual links. These links point users to interesting and related content, boosting the credibility of your content.

The more links an important page receives, the more important it will appear to search engines.

How to optimise your content once it has been created

Once you have written your amazing and relevant content, there are a couple of steps to optimise your content even further. These are as follows:

Title Tag

Title tags are the clickable headlines that the user sees at the top of the search result. Optimise your titles tags by doing the following:

  • Keep it under 60 characters.
  • Don’t put multiple keywords into the title.
  • Be specific about what the content is about.
  • Place target keywords at the beginning.

Meta Description

Your meta description is the information that appears under the URL and title tag. To optimise your meta description it is best to.

  • Keep it under 160 characters.
  • Provide a short overview of what the content is about.
  • Include relevant keywords.

URLs

Your URL structure is another component of SEO that has an indirect impact on rankings. Readability is key here, you don’t want search users to be scared of by long mysterious URLs.

Once you’ve got all this down pat, your content will drastically increase its visibility!

Positive user experience indicates such as time on site, pages per session, and bounce rates continue to be important ranking factors in 2023. Keywords and their placement are still significant, but should not be the only focus of SEO efforts. Instead, site creators should prioritise writing for users and creating engaging content.

In addition to these factors, backlinks, referrals, SSL certificates (site security), and page content length also play a crucial role in a website’s ranking.

So, how do we improve them?

1. High Quality Content

If you want to improve your Google ranking, high-quality content is essential. Google will reward your website for offering informative, engaging and relevant content. High-quality content needs to be original and informative. Your content must be optimised for search engines, which means using relevant keywords and phrases. However, never stuff your content with too many keywords as it sounds spammy and can negatively impact your Google rankings.

To improve your Google rankings, you should also consider the length of your content. Longer content ranks higher as it often provides more information to readers, however the length of your content shouldn’t compromise the quality. It should remain engaging and informative.

2. Backlinks

Strong backlinks are a must if you want to improve your website’s ranking on Google. Links from other high-quality websites bolster the relevance of your content and help you rank higher. SEO tactics like link building can help, but it’s important to focus on quality over quantity.

Always research the other domain where the link will appear to ensure it’s a quality website and it’s relevant to your product or service. Google strongly discourages buying links, and favours organic backlinks. Our Gold Coast SEO experts recommend instead focusing on building relationships with other websites in your industry by contributing guest posts or collaborating on content.

Tools like Ahrefs and SEMRush can be helpful to identify other high-quality websites that are relevant to your industry and suitable as potential targets for link building.

3. Relevancy

To rank higher with Google, your content must be relevant. Google aims to ensure websites provide information that is relevant to the search queries. To rank higher, improve your website’s relevancy by optimising your content and website structure for the keywords that your audience will use to find your products or service. Keyword research tools are great for helping you identify the most relevant keywords. These should be incorporated into your website content in the web pages, meta tags and website structure.

4. User Experience

In 2023 our Gold Coast SEO experts believe user experience has a big impact on your Google ranking. Google’s ranking algorithm wants websites to provide a positive experience for users. To improve user experience your website must be easy to use, fast, and visually appealing. Clear navigation is essential to ensure people using your website can find the information they are looking for.

Make it mobile friendly? Nowadays, it’s not even debatable whether a website needs to be optimised for mobile devices, it’s key to creating a state-of-the-art website.
